POSITION

This full-time, probationary (tenure track) teaching position is scheduled for thirty hours/week of student contact and ten hours/week of professional activity, Monday through Friday. The hours on campus will be from 2:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This instructor will be responsible for teaching components of the Civil CADD curriculum, which includes the subject areas of field data acquisition and reduction, maps, boundary law, legal descriptions, grading, earthwork calculations, route layout, drainage design, geodesy, GPS, GIS, photogrammetry, and related topics. The curriculum also includes related instruction topics such as mathematics, technical writing, and human relations. Other professional responsibilities include: maintaining office hours at times convenient to the students, serving as an ad-hoc member of the program's advisory committee, serving on departmental and college committees, participating in professional improvement activities and other related duties assigned by the Dean. This position is scheduled to begin fall quarter, 2008.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Effectively teach the adopted curriculum for the Civil CADD program.
  2. Provide for the orderly conduct of program learning activities, individual student learning needs, and the appropriate evaluation of student progress towards attaining the learning objectives.
  3. Contribute to the ongoing development and updating of the curriculum as required by the college or industry trends.
  4. Maintain appropriate individual student records and submit them in a timely manner as required.
  5. Perform recruiting and job placement activities for students.
  6. Actively participate in, and develop and maintain effective working relationships with the program advisory committee. Enhance advisory committee representation by developing close ties with the business community.
  7. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
  8. Develop a professional development plan and participate in improvement activities.
  9. Work effectively with students from academically, culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.
  10. Effectively participate in staff and college committees and activities.
  11. Communicate effectively in oral and written English.
  12. Support the college's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.
  13. Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.
  14. Pursue professional growth activities to remain current in Civil CADD and teaching methodology.
  15. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  16. Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Dean.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Associate's degree or higher credential from an accredited college or technical school.
  2. A minimum of four years recent successful work experience in the Civil CADD field in a variety of projects such as residential/commercial development, utilities, and roads or highways.
  3. Experience working with Microsoft Office products, namely Word and Excel. Experience with Autodesk® AutoCAD software and the Land Development and Civil 3D modules.
  4. Familiar with survey data manipulation.
  5. Provide evidence of ability to instruct students in the function and operation of computer software and hardware.
  6. Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment an industrial first aid certificate and an industrial safety and hygiene certificate.
  7. Have taken, or after initial employment begin taking, professional-technical teacher training courses.
  8. Demonstrate interest and ability to work successfully with students who represent a broad range of ages, abilities, cultural and ethnical background, and education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor degree or Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology.
  2. Experience working with GIS software and surveying instrumentation..
  3. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level covering current and emerging fields in Civil CADD also desirable.
COMPENSATION

The annual salary for this position  is from $46,381. to $60,295., depending upon experience, number of workdays, and excluding available incentive programs. Employer-paid benefits include medical and dental coverage, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance as currently provided under the Public Employees Benefits Board; a retirement plan; and sick leave. Some benefits require that the employee pay a portion of the fees and charges.
