POSITION

This full-time, probationary (tenure track) teaching position is scheduled for six hours of student contact and two hours of professional activity per day, Monday through Friday. This instructor will have full responsible for effectively teaching a one year medical assistant program. Curriculum includes: anatomy; physiology; basic math and math for pharmacology; principles of pharmacology; back office clinical skills; basic administrative skills; law and ethics, as these subjects relate to the role of the medial assistant; communication; human relations, professionalism; and job search. The instructor will supervise students during externships and assist students in obtaining jobs. Other professional responsibilities include: maintaining office hours at times convenient to the students, serving as an ad-hoc member of the program's advisory committee, serving on departmental and college committees, participating in professional improvement activates and performing other related duties as may be assigned by the dean. This position is scheduled to begin fall quarter, 2009.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Effectively teach the adopted curriculum for the medical assistant program.
  2. Conduct learning activities and the evaluation of student progress towards attaining the learning objectives.
  3. Develop and update the curriculum on a regular basis.
  4. Maintain appropriate student records and program reports and submit them in a timely manner as required.
  5. Perform student recruitment and placement activities.
  6. Contribute to the development of an annual program budget and manage the program within budget.
  7. Actively participate in, and develop and maintain effective working relationships with the program advisory committee.
  8. Work effectively with students from academically, culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.
  9. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
  10. Support the college's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.
  11. Maintain and ensure program performance and competency standards are met.
  12. Effectively participate in staff and college committees and activities.
  13. Develop, collaborate, maintain, and participate in program accreditation.
  14. Develop an annual professional improvement plan and participate in improvement activities.
  15. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  16. Collaborate, guide, direct, and mentor additional program faculty.
  17. Perform additional tasks as assigned by the dean.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Medical Assistant with CMA credentials through the AAMA.
  2. Three years of recent experience.
  3. Demonstrated interest and ability to work successfully with students, staff, and the community.
  4. Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment an industrial first aid certificate, current CPR certification, and an industrial safety and hygiene certificate.
  5. Documentation of current immunization and health requirements within 6 months of hire date is required.
  6. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  7. Haven taken, or after initial employment begin taking, professional-technical teacher training courses.
  8. Demonstrated interest and ability to work successfully with students, who represent a broad range of ages, abilities, cultural and ethnical background and educations.
  9. AAS or advanced degree is preferred.
  10. Successful teaching experience is preferred.
COMPENSATION

The academic year (184 days) salary for this position is from $46,381- $55,657, depending upon experience, education, number of workdays and excluding incentive programs. Employer-paid benefits include medical and dental coverage, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance as currently provided under the Public Employees Benefits Board, a retirement plan, and sick leave. Some benefits require that the employee pay a portion of the fees and charges.
