POSITION

This full time (tenure track) position is contracted for a maximum of 215 days per fiscal year, and reports to the Vice President of Student Services. This position provides vocational counseling, testing and analysis, and career decision making assistance to students from a wide variety of cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds on academic and other college issues. Other professional responsibilities include recruiting; coordinating services with several area high schools and human services agencies; consulting with faculty, staff, and administrators on a variety of issues, serving on departmental and college committees, participating in professional improvement activities. Normal work hours for this position will be from 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. This position is scheduled to begin upon selection.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Provide effective career counseling.
  2. Assist students with admission into the appropriate college program.
  3. Administer and interpret achievement and counseling-related tests and inventories.
  4. Prescribe programs to aid students to overcome academic deficiencies and /or difficulties.
  5. Provide vocational interest testing and analysis on an as needed basis to current and prospective students.
  6. Act as a multicultural liaison both between and among the college community and with external agencies, organizations, and individuals.
  7. Develop effective working and consultative relationships with students and staff.
  8. Effectively maintain recruiting activities with designated area high schools, community based organizations, employment security offices, and other human services organizations.
  9. Participate in career fairs, job fairs, graduation, and other activities that promote the college throughout the community.
  10. Work effectively with students from academically, culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.
  11. Coordinate counseling services with designated committees.
  12. Participate in staff and college committees and activities.
  13. Develop a professional improvement plan and participate in improvement activates.
  14. Serve as a member of the student services team.
  15. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Masters degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or related area is required. A supervised practicum or other supervised experience in counseling is required. Professional preparation including course work in abnormal psychology, counseling, counseling theories, developmental psychology, personality theories, and testing and assessment is strongly preferred.
  2. Additional training in vocational or career counseling is strongly preferred.
  3. Demonstrated successful counseling experience with an adult population is required, Strong preference is given to applicants with non academic work experience in a multi-cultural setting.
  4. Demonstrated interest and ability to work successfully with students, who represent a broad range of ages, abilities, cultural and ethnical background, socio-economic backgrounds and educations.
  5. Applicants with Washington State Learning Disabilities Specialist Training are preferred.
COMPENSATION

The annual salary for this position is from $48,700. to $57,976., depending upon education, experience, number of work days, excluding available incentive programs. Employer-paid benefits include medical and dental coverage, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance as currently provided under the State of Washington; a retirement plan; and sick leave. Some benefits require that the employee pay a portion of the fees and charges.
