POSITION

This full-time (non-tenure track) teaching position is scheduled for six hours of student contact and two hours of professional activity per day, Monday through Friday. This Instructor will be responsible for effectively teaching a section of Precision Machining Technologies, which is a two-year certificate full-time program. Included are all aspects of theory and practice for instruction on lathe & milling manual machines and CNC set-up and operation. Curriculum also includes design using Mastercam. Other professional responsibilities include: maintaining office hours at time convenient for the students; serving as an ad hoc member of the program's advisory committee; serving on departmental and college committees; participating in professional improvement activities; and performing other related duties as may be assigned by the Dean. This is a grant funded position (Air Washington) expected to continue through September 30, 2014. Annual continuation of this position is contingent on special funding. This position is scheduled to begin upon selection.

ESSENTIAL
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Effectively teach the adopted curriculum for the Precision Machining Technology program.
  2. Conduct learning activities and evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning objectives.
  3. Using lecture, computer lab, and hands-on individual instruction, to teach approximately 22 students.
  4. Follow the established syllabi and CBEs for courses within Precision machining Technologies.
  5. Administer assessments of student achievement to include individual assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests.
  6. Provide instruction for nomenclature, operation, safety principles, and standards of production on the following machines: manual lathe, manual mill, CNC mill and lathe machines including a 5 axis CNC machine, cutoff saw, pedestal grinder, drill press, and surface grinder.
  7. Teach layout including use of Mastercam.
  8. Teach basic math, basic algebra and applied geometry and trigonometry.
  9. Coordinate use of shop, classroom, CNC machines and computer lab with the current Precision Machining Technologies Instructor who teaches a section of 25 students during the same timeframe.
  10. Collaborate with current Precision Machining Technologies Instructor and a math/English-as-a-second language instructor to maximize learning opportunities for students in both sections.
  11. Collaborate with current Precision Machining Technologies Instructor and the Air Washington Site Coordinator to restructure curriculum to match the National Institute for Metal working Standards (NIMS) certifications and online academic instruction such as Tooling U.
  12. Ability to coordinate students who work in four separate areas: classroom, shop, CNC shop, and computer lab.
  13. Participate in instructor training and curriculum development conferences for up to one week at a time between 2012 and 2014 that require overnight travel outside of King county.
  14. Establish guidelines and manage conduct of students as appropriate for the classroom and machine shop.
  15. Maintain appropriate student records, documentation, and program reports and submit them in a timely manner as required.
  16. Maintain and ensure program performance and competency standards are met.
  17. Work effectively with student from academically, culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.
  18. Ability to work well within a team.
  19. Communicate effectively in oral and written English.
  20. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, supervisor, and staff.
  21. Support the college's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.
  22. Effectively participate in staff and college committees and activities.
  23. Develop an annual professional development plan and participate in development activities.
  24. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  25. Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
  1. Four years of experience as a journey level machinist.
  2. Experience using a recent version of Microsoft Office and data entry into an online information management system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 
  1. Degree or course work in vocational education.
  2. Completion of a state registered apprenticeship program for machinist.
  3. Experience with at least a 5 axis CNC machine.
  4. Experience and knowledge of Mastercam and/or Solidworks.
  5. One year of experience teaching or supervising.
COMPENSATION

The academic year (184 days) salary for this position is from $46,381 - $55,657, depending upon experience, and excluding summer quarter, incentive programs and advanced degrees. Employer paid benefits include medical and dental coverage, basic life insurance, long term disability insurance as currently provided by the State of Washington, a retirement plan, and sick leave. Some of the benefits require that the employee pay a portion of the fees and charges.
