Dan Bainbridge was raised in the farming community of Paso Robles, California. An outstanding trombonist, Dan received the coveted John Phillip Sousa award in high school. After attending Long Beach City College where he served as principal trombonist in the orchestra, Dan began his musical instrument repair training at Renton Technical College, graduating in 1982. Recently, Dan completed 7 years of service on the Band Instrument Repair Technology program advisory committee where he was integral in the re-shaping of the BIRT curriculum and a guiding force in the current direction of the program. Over the past three years, Dan taught advanced woodwind repair techniques at Renton Technical College.
Prior to his appointment as full-time woodwind and instructor, Dan worked in the band instrument repair and service industry for twenty-five years. He spent much of the past fifteen years doing repair work for discriminating amateur and professional musicians. His repair skills on woodwind instruments are highly regarded throughout the Greater Seattle area.
Dan has been a presenter at multiple events, both regional and national, for the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians sharing his knowledge and experience with his peers. Dan’s recent presentation on woodwind crack pinning and carbon-fiber banding at the Tucson Conference of N.A.P.B.I.R.T. was well-received.
Dan’s hobbies include photography, ball-room dancing and building model airplanes. Dan has served for more than 20 years on the board of directors of his church.
