Daryl Hickman
Bio:
Daryl Hickman holds
an Associate in Science degree from Central Florida Community College, a
Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology from the University of Cincinnati
and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Prior to his appointment at Renton Technical College, Mr. Hickman apprenticed
with James Adair as a band instrument repair technician and taught instrumental
music in the public schools of Florida and Missouri.
He is a member of
the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians and
serves as President of the organization. In his duties with N.A.P.B.I.R.T.,
Daryl travels throughout the United States giving clinics on band instrument
repair. Daryl taught at N.A.P.B.I.R.T. University in Normal, Illinois and has
given lectures at the organization’s national conferences in Portland, Boston,
Minneapolis and San Antonio. Daryl is a past recipient of the Dick Rush
Memorial Award as Outstanding Conference Clinician and the RTC Outstanding
Faculty Award.
Daryl’s musical
background includes duty as a tuba player with the U.S. Army’s 24th Infantry
Division Band (Desert Shield/Storm), the 571st Air Force Band of the Missouri
Air National Guard and the 560th Air Force Band of the Washington Air National
Guard. Daryl has performed with the Gainesville (FL) Community Band, the
Missouri River Brass Quintet and the Columbia (MO) Community Band. Daryl plays
soccer in the Greater Seattle Soccer League and he is an FAA certified
commercial pilot and flight instructor of land and sea airplanes.
