Board of Directors

The Renton Technical College Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of professionals in the RTC service area. Members serve 3 – year terms on the board. All board members serve on at least one Foundation committee; however, these committees are not limited to just board members.

Andee Jorgensen - President
Andee Jorgensen Title/Organization: Project Manager, Qwest (Retired)

Bio: Andee is a retired manager from U.S. West. She has a long history of service with Renton Technical College. She was appointed by the Governor to the Board of Trustees in 1992 and served three terms chairing the board numerous years as well. In that capacity she also served as the liaison to the Foundation and now serves on the Foundation board. Additionally her community work is extensive. She serves on the Renton Area Youth and Family Services Board of Directors, the Greater Renton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and currently co-chairs the Cuautla, Mexico Sister City Committee and serves as Secretary for Rotary International club of Renton. She is married to Rich Wagner and has a son.

Angela Wingate - Vice President
Angela Wingate Title/Organization: Municipal Liaison Manager at Puget Sound Energy (PSE)

Bio: Angela joined the RTC Foundation Board in August 2010 and is a Municipal Liaison Manager for Puget Sound Energy (PSE) where she serves as the primary contact with local government agencies, Sound Transit and Washington State on larger, more sensitive, Special Projects throughout PSE’s service region. She ensures coordinated efforts so as to minimize project impacts upon facilities, resolves concerns, issues and questions relating from construction projects, schedules, tariffs, relocation of facilities, conversion of electrical overhead systems and negotiates various agreements. A native of Washington, Angela has lived in the Eastside since 1998 and is also actively involved as Board of Director for the Newcastle Chamber, Newcastle Days Committee Member and is a member of Leadership Eastside.

Melinda Merrell - Treasurer
Melinda Merrell Title/Organization: VP of Administration and Finance, Renton Technical College

Bio: Melinda has worked at RTC for the past 8 years and was recently promoted from Director of Financial Services to Vice President of Administration and Finance. She became a board member in September 2009. She was born and raised in the Renton area and after graduating high school, she enlisted in the Army. Melinda holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of North Florida.

Susanna Williams
Susanna Williams Title/Organization: College Relations / Foundation Director, Renton Technical College

Bio: Susanna serves as the Director of the Renton Technical College Foundation. In addition to fundraising, Susanna also leads communications, marketing, and legislative advocacy work for the College. A lifelong educator and former classroom teacher, she has also done communications and marketing work for several K – 12 schools in the Puget Sound region. Most recently, Susanna served as a campaign manager for municipal and state legislative races. She is an active volunteer in Seattle’s Central District and South end, where she lives. In 2009, Susanna was honored with the Governor’s Award for Community Service. In 2011, Susanna received a German Marshall Memorial Fund Fellowship. She holds a B.A. in politics from Earlham College and a M.S. in early childhood / elementary education from Bank Street Graduate School of Education.

Jerene Battisti
Jerene Battisti - President Title/Organization: Education and Teen Services Coordinator; King County Library System.

Bio:Jerene is the Education and Teen Services Coordinator for the King County Library System. Jerene has been a board member since September 2003. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1967 and received her Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences in 1969. Jerene is active with the Renton Rotary Board, and the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Board. Additionally, she is a member of the Young Adult Library Services Association Board of the American Library Association. Jerene believes that Renton Technical College is a vital asset to the economic growth of this region and feels fortunate to serve on the Board.


Barbara Culler
Barbara Culler Title/Organization: Faculty, Early Childhood Careers, Renton Technical College.

Bio: Barbara is the Early Childhood Careers Instructor at Renton Technical College. She has been working at RTC since 1991, both as a full and part time evening instructor she joined the board in 2005. Originally from Hawaii, Barbara received her training and education at the University of Hawaii, where she earned her M.ED in Early Childhood Education. She has been working in education for over 30 years and loves teaching others about young children.

Lisa Hayward

Bio: Lisa has over 13 years of human resources experience specializing in talent acquisition, lean process improvement, and project management. She is a charter member of the Staffing Management Assocation-affliation with the National Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and also a member of the local Seattle chapter of SHRM. Lisa received her B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Washington and most recently received a lean six sigma certificate from Villanova University

Terry Higashiyama
Terry Higashiyama – President Title/Organization: Community Services Administrator, City of Renton.

Bio:Terry serves as the City of Renton’s Community Services Administrator. She joined the board in 2007, and brings with her a passion for community service and parks and recreation with over 28 years of experience. She received the industry’s highest recognition, the “Honor Fellow Award”, in 2001 for her dedication and support in the parks and recreation field. Terry currently serves as Chair for the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA). She served on the Community in Schools of Renton board for many years, and currently serves as President of the Renton Rotary Club. Terry was named one of the Outstanding Citizens in 2010 for volunteer work she has done in the greater Renton community.

Rebecca Holverson
Rebecca Holverson Title/Organization: Vice President and Branch Manager, Columbia State Bank

Bio: Rebecca Holverson is the Vice President and Branch Manager of the Columbia State Bank in Renton, WA. Rebecca joined the board in September of 2010. She is actively involved with the Renton Community Foundation as a member of their Scholarship Committee. Rebecca is a Founding Board Member and Treasurer for “The Next Curve”, a new philanthropic organization developed to help build new participation in the Renton Community. She also is a member of Renton Rotary. Rebecca is passionate about giving back to her community and helping others achieve their dreams.

Robert Littell

Bio: Robert is a third generation business owner and agent in the life insurance and securities industry. He joined the board in 2007. His focus is on retirement planning, life insurance and college savings plans. He has practiced for almost thirty years, attended the University of Washington, is married and has two children, a daughter age 5 and a son, 9 months. He believes in a relationship based practice, helping people from all walks of life and is passionate about creating opportunities to help people succeed.

Veronica Medina

Bio: Veronica grew up in Renton and now resides in Kent with her husband and three children, Marissa 13, Caitlyn 10 & Marco 5. She is a daughter of immigrants and is first in her family to graduate from college. She knows the importance of education and how difficult it sometimes is for individuals to get a college education. Veronica has remained in her family's business and has worked there for over 20 years. She served on the St. Anthony School Commission for 5 years and has remained active in the Renton community. She is excited to serve at the college and is hoping for the best!

Bio: Dino became a member of RTC Foundation board in September 2010. Dino and her husband, both Washington natives, raised their family in South King County. Rich Zwicker
Rich Zwicker Title/Organization: Paralegal, State of Washington Office of the Attorney General

Bio: Rich is a two-time graduate of RTC, earning his first Certificate in 1989 and returning for his Associates in Applied Sciences in 2009. Rich is currently employed by the State of Washington Office of the Attorney General as a Paralegal. He is a member of the Renton City Council. A life-long resident of Renton, he is active in his neighborhood and the Renton community and is a Founding member of The Next Curve, a new philanthropic organization developed to help build new participation in the Renton Community.
