RTC Receives College Spark GrantSeptember 17, 2009 - Renton Technical College (RTC) has received a $287,282 grant from College Spark Washington to fund a three year project titled Universal Design for Success. This is an innovative system-building project for improving completion rates of students of low-income and is designed to begin as a pilot in a small number of classrooms, expanding to a larger number over the course of 3 years. The project is based on previously successful interventions developed through a long term project funded by the U.S. Department of Education (DOE). That project focused on increasing completion rates for students with disabilities and was highly successful. The Universal Design for Success project will use the quantitative and qualitative lessons learned from the DOE project and apply them to a slightly different population: low income students.
" I see this as an opportunity for RTC to help both its own students, as well as those from other colleges when the results are shared with the community college system next year," said Cathy Jenner, project coordinator of the grant.
