General Education - Physics
PHYS& 121 – General Physics I (5 credits)
Algebra-based physics for students majoring in technically oriented fields not
requiring a calculus based physics course. This course provides an introduction
to mechanics, kinematics, energy, and conservation principles.
Computer-interfaced laboratory investigations, technical writing,
problem-solving using both physical and mathematical reasoning strategies and
the scientific method of inquiry skills are emphasized. Prerequisite: MATH& 141.
PHYS& 122 – General Physics II (5 credits)
This course is the second in a three quarter sequence of algebra-based physics.
The course provides an introduction to mechanical properties of matter, fluid
mechanics, wave phenomena, and thermodynamics. Laboratory investigations,
technical writing, problem solving using both physical and mathematical
reasoning strategies and the scientific method of inquiry skills will be
emphasized. Laboratory included. Prerequisite: PHYS& 121.
PHYS& 123 - General Physics III (5 credits)
This course is the third in a three quarter sequence of algebra-based
physics. The course provides an introduction to electricity, magnetism, optics
and modern physics. Laboratory investigations, technical writing, problem
solving using both physical and mathematical reasoning strategies and the
scientific method of inquiry skills will be emphasized. Laboratory included.
Prerequisite: PHYS& 122.
