Cosmetology
This program, open to both men and women, trains students to take the Washington
State Cosmetology Licensing Exam and become entry-level cosmetologists.
Cosmetologists shampoo, cut, style, give permanents, and color hair for men,
women, and children.
Students gain theory and lab experience in skin, scalp, and hair analysis;
shampooing; styling; cutting hair; permanent waving; chemical hair relaxing;
hair coloring and lightening; manicuring and pedicuring;
skin care; and make-up. The program also
covers business ethics and salon management, math, communications, and human
relations.
Instruction takes place at state-licensed beauty schools in South King County
that have a contract with Renton Technical College. Students are expected
to purchase kits, uniforms, and supplies.
Note: The beauty schools do not follow the RTC calendar.
