Admission Requirements
- Minimum age: 18 years (at time of taking licensing examination)
- Must take the COMPASS test* before entering program within 1 year with minimum scores of:
- Math, 40-59
- Reading, 56-74
- Writing, 56-74
- High school diploma or GED (to be completed by the time of taking licensing examination)
- Ability to read, write and converse in English
- HIV Training Certification with a minimum of 7 hours of training, within 5 years prior to entry
- Completion of Healthcare Provider CPR Level C and First Aid, within 1 year prior to entry
- Nationwide criminal background check prior to admission into program (CertifiedBackground.com)
- Medical documentation of negative TB skin test or chest x-ray examination, if there is a history of positive skin tests
- Proof of immunizations in accordance to the the Centers for Disease Control guidelines
to be provided by physician or the local health department include:
- Measles (Rubeolla), mumps and rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Flu
- Current (within 3 months of application) evaluation by a physician or nurse practitioner to ensure
student and patient safety. The evaluation should address the following areas in respect to the student's ability
to perform the laboratory skills and clinical responsibilities related to becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and to reach overhead
- Ability to stand or walk for long periods
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Completion with a minimum grade of 2.0 in each course taken, and a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of all prerequisite courses of 2.5 or
higher.
- Completion of each of the following courses with a minimum 2.0 GPA within 10 years prior to entry:
- 10-credit Anatomy and Physiology course, or its equivalent
- 5-credit Biology, or its equivalent
- Completion of each of the following courses with a minimum 2.0 GPA within 5 years prior to entry:
- 5-credit Human Nutrition course
- 3-credit Medical Terminology course
- 5-credit Math for Health Sciences course, or its equivalent
- Must hold a current, valid and unencumbered license as a Certified Nursing Assistant for the
State of Washington.
- Health insurance, both injury and sickness, is required for participation in the clinical portion of
the program.
*If the student has taken both college level English and math the COMPASS or
ASSET test requirement is waived.
