Program Outcomes

  • Possess the skills needed to secure and maintain entry-level employment as legal receptionists, document clerks, paralegal assistants, and litigation assistants.
  • Practice professional work habits expected in the legal office environment, including confidentiality and legal ethics.
  • Achieve a working knowledge of basic terms and concepts related to the state and federal court systems, family law, probate and estate planning, criminal and civil litigation, business organizations, real estate, and bankruptcy.
  • Prepare a variety of legal documents, including correspondence, pleadings, charges, and tables from rough draft, transcription, forms, and boilerplate language.
  • Perform those basic office tasks and procedures that are typical in legal office reception and support positions, including time and billing tasks.
  • Research legal and employment information via printed materials, electronic media, and the Internet.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate orally and in writing at a level necessary for successful employment in the legal office field.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills needed to prioritize, anticipate and analyze problems, and to evaluate and implement solutions.
  • Possess a commitment to diversity and enhanced employability through the understanding and practice of human relations and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to research employment opportunities, prepare an effective employment package, including resume, and present oneself positively in a job interview.
