Program Outcomes

Upon successfully completing the Paraeducator/Instructional Assistant program, the student will be able to work effectively in a school environment.  Specifically, students will be able to:

  • Use the skills needed to secure and maintain entry-level employment in a variety of paraeducator positions.
  • Understand and practice professional work habits expected in the public/private sectors. Including confidentiality and appropriate ethics.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of equipment (computer, laminator, copier, overhead, comb binder) typically used.
  • Support the teacher/administration in group management practices.
  • Perform those basic tasks and procedures that are typical of the school setting including tutoring, preparing and distributing materials, and leading small groups.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate orally and in writing at a level necessary for successful employment in school settings.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform math skills at a level necessary for successful employment in school settings.
  • Research a variety of subjects via printed materials, electronic media, library searches, and the internet.
  • Possess a commitment to diversity in the work setting through understanding and practice of human relations and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to research employment opportunities, prepare an effective employment portfolio, and present positive interviewing skills.
