Program Outcomes
Graduates of the Surgical Technologist program will:
-
Have the skills necessary for entry as a surgical technologist in the operating
room.
-
Have adequate knowledge and experience to take the Certification Examination
for Surgical Technologists.
-
Have the skills to set-up preoperatively, provide appropriate instrumentation
and assistance intra-operatively, dress the wound and complete decontamination
postoperatively.

Use appropriate instrumentation, drugs and equipment for various general and
specialty surgical procedures.
-
Be aware of body mechanics, patient and occupational hazards to include
electrical, LASER, radiation, chemical and biological concerns.

Earn Industrial First Aide and Health Care Provider Basic Life Support cards.

Understand and be aware of legal and ethical issues concerning patient and
employment relationships.

Demonstrate good communication skills using appropriate medical terminology
with patients, peers and physicians in a diverse work place.

Demonstrate an understanding of microbiology as it pertains to the wearing of
surgical attire, skin preparation, septic technique and preparation of the
physical environment.

Demonstrate teamwork in the lab and clinical situations, and presents a
professional demeanor with patients, peers and physicians.

Demonstrate critical thinking skills to prioritize, anticipate and analyze
problems, and then evaluate solutions.

Demonstrate the ability to market themselves utilizing interpersonal, written
and electronic communication to research jobs and apply for employment.
