Getting Started

Step 1

All potential Running Start students are required to take a college assessment test (ASSET/ COMPASS). The test is offered at Renton Technical College. Students need to make an appointment for testing (425) 235-2352 ext. 5533, and pay the testing fee. You should allow about two hours to complete the testing. To be eligible for Running Start students’ ASSEST/ COMPASS scores must place them at college level, which will be determined by the participating college. To qualify for college transfer courses, the student must qualify for English 101 and/or Math 101.

Step 2

Make an appointment with your high school counselor
to review your ASSEST/ COMPASS results and to discuss how Running Start could work with your educational career/plans. Students must have the Running Start Authorization to Register form filled out by their counselor, which specifies which classes they are permitted to take at the college.

Step 3

Make an appointment for an advising, registration and program visitation at Renton Technical College. All students wishing to enroll in a full-time technical program must have a tour of the program prior to enrolling. Students will need to call for an appointment:
(425) 235-5840.
