English-Spanish Construction Safety Phrasebook.  The SMART Association was awarded a (Washington State) Ships grant this year to produce a English-Spanish construction safety phrasebook. We just received the first published copies, which are in a booklet form that will fit into a pocket. Essentially it was created for construction superintendents and foreman to communicate safety phrases on the construction site from English to Spanish.  As part of the stipulation of the grant we are required to present a short training that offers insights into the growing construction Hispanic workforce, including language barriers, cultural differences & norms. We explore simple translation techniques and introduce the “El Chapp ”Safety Phrase Book .

Copies of “El Chapp”are FREE with attendance at this 45 minute FREE Classroom training.

The “El Chapp” English Spanish Handbook covers 12 areas of construction safety and health and offers bi-lingual phrases to communicate about risks, hazards and safer work habits. In addition the handbook opens with simple useful communication phases. Numerous photos throughout the chapters also assist in communication.
