Healthy Healthcare

Violence in the hospital—12 minutes. Live action. This video covers the warning signs of impending violence,  “the assault cycle” —the behavior that leads up to an assault—and examines ways of defusing an angry patient or family member.  It also covers what staff should do if they are threatened, or see another staff member threatened. Reducing Radiological Exposure—22 minutes.  Live action. Aimed at nurses, but informative for anyone who works around medical devices that emit radiation. Includes the effects of ionizing radiation, shielding, scatter, monitoring exposure, and safe behavior.  MEDIA 616.075702 REDUCIN 2001e.

 

Safety for hospital housekeepers— 22 minutes. This video offers several tips on maintaining a safe work environment, including reporting defective equipment, cleaning up spills, removing objects on the floor and avoiding horseplay.  Also covers avoiding needle-sticks and mixing unknown chemicals.        Office Safety

Computer Workstation Safety—21 minutes. The nature of computer hazards, and ways to avoid injury. Covers repetitive motion injuries, eyestrain due to poor lighting, and muscular distress. Looks at how to organize your workspace to encourage safe work practices.  MEDIA 620.82 COMPUTE 2002w

You and Office Safety—9 minutes.  A dated—but funny—look at office dangers, including slips, trips, and falls. This is a humorous way to start a serious discussion. MEDIA 363.11 YOU 1969c 05223

Safety in the Office – Live action. Humorous – 15 minutes.  Avoiding the most common causes of accidents in offices—slips, trips and falls, and back injuries. Also covers electrical shock and fire hazards.  MEDIA 363.11 SAFETY 1992o

Safety orientation for office environment—12 minutes. Serious, thorough discussion of electrical, chemical, fire and ergonomic safety.  Mentions MSDS.  MEDIA 363.11 SAFETY 1995o

 

Terrorism Response

Bomb Threat Procedures—19 minutes.  Planning for and dealing with bomb threats. The most useful part of this video is  probably the section titled “Bomb Threat Response” which covers exactly what to do when you receive a bomb threat.  MEDIA 363.106 BOMB 1997t

Bioterrorism for Healthcare – 13 minutes. Live action, some animation. How to detect a bioterrorism- caused epidemic, the symptoms of plague, anthrax, smallpox, and botulism, how they are transmitted, health precautions, how to minimize public anxiety.
