It’s About Respect: Recognizing Harassment in a Diverse Workplace. (2002).Call number: MEDIA 658.3145 ITS-ABO 2002r Workplace harassment damages employee morale and overall productivity. But do we always recognize it when we see it? This video demonstrates several harassment scenarios. Noreen Light, Emergency Dispatch Instructor, recommends this for all instructors. “It’s a great human relations video.” Judith Frey of Instructional Improvement also lists it.
Eye Exam: The Essentials. (2001). By the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Call number: MEDIA 617.75 MOVAGHA 2001 This video is an introduction to the basic eye exam for medical personnel who are not eye-care specialists. Larry Bovard, instructor for the Ophthalmic Assistant program, suggests this video for Allied Health students –especially LPN and Medical Assistants – who may have to do eye examinations as part of their duties.

I’m Normal, You’re Weird: Understanding Other Cultures. (1998). Call number: MEDIA 303.402 I’M-NOR 1998y Since RTC’s student body includes people from many different countries, we occasionally experience cultural conflicts in the classroom. This video explores some of the differences between cultures with the intention of encouraging understanding. Topics covered include differences in body language, in looking at and speaking to strangers, different conceptions of suitable food, attitudes toward time and definitions of honesty.
Do Hollywood films have a place in the classroom? Many instructors believe they do. The following are a few feature films RTC Library offers for home viewing or classroom use. Stand and Deliver (1988) tells the story of an East Los Angeles teacher who coaches his poor barrio school students to take and pass the National Advanced Placement Calculus Exam. Emphasizes the importance of mathematics, and the power of education—and a good teacher—to change lives. Call Number: MEDIA 791.4372 STAND 1988d Apollo 13 (1995) is the dramatization of a true incident—the crippling of the 1970 Apollo 13 mission bound for the moon, the astronauts’ struggle to survive, and the efforts of the NASA ground crew to save them. Emphasizes team work and problem solving. Call Number: MEDIA 791.4371 APOLLO 1995t Glory Enough for All (1988) was a mini-series developed for the Canadian Broadcasting Company. It dramatizes the discovery of insulin at the University of Toronto in 1921. A thorough depiction of the ravages of diabetes before there were any effective treatments and of the process of scientific and medical investigation. Call Number: MEDIA 572.56509 GLORY 1988e Separate but Equal (1991) dramatizes the events leading to the US Supreme Court decision Brown vs. Board which outlawed school segregation in the US.
