This week is Renton Technical College’s (RTC) annual Constitution Week, with civic activities highlighting the U.S. Constitution and citizenship.
Scheduled campus activities include creating a Bill of Rights in classrooms while studying the first 10 amendments and the civic rights enumerated within, and creating classroom Constitutions while exploring protected freedoms around religion, speech and assembly. The week will culminate with Citizenship Day, Saturday, Sept. 23. The event provides free resources for immigrants, including consultations with immigration attorneys and document filing assistance. Interpreters will be provided.
To be eligible, participants must be at least 18 years old, have lawful permanent residency status, and have been present in the U.S. for at least half of the previous five years. Those who are qualified are encouraged to visit the main campus at 3000 NE 4th St., Renton, WA 98056 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23 in Bldg. C.
A voter registration drive will take place the following week.
