Online or Hybrid Class? Get Set Up!

Thank you for choosing Renton Technical College for your online learning! The online classrooms will be held in Canvas, and will be open for 3-2-1 Start Activities so that you are familiar with Canvas and navigating the course three days before classes start each quarter. Before classes start please set up your student email, familiarize yourself with Canvas, and purchase any textbooks necessary.

Renton Technical College uses Instructor Canvas, a Learning Management System that requires individual student login for classroom, hybrid and online courses. All courses and students are automatically uploaded to the LMS. Faculty are required by contract to use the Canvas platform for their gradebook, and in 2016 the administration requested that syllabi and course outcomes be housed in Canvas.  Starting in Summer 2016, the college integrated Lockdown Browser, which allows online testing to be done in a proctored environment with student identification.   Online and hybrid students may be expected to use this in their courses.  You can see how to use it at: Respondus Lockdown Browser Student How-To Link. Student RTC Email

As an enrolled student you have been assigned a college email address. Please activate your student email. It is important that you use your RTC student email as it will be the main channel for communications from your instructors and the college. If you have questions, contact the Student Help Desk at (425) 235-2282 during business hours.


You can purchase textbooks at our Bookstore, 425-235-2323, Our bookstore also has an online store, create your own account and search for the textbook using the course number.

Canvas Student Orientation

Your class will be taught in the online learning platform called Canvas. Before classes start, please visit our short Canvas Student Orientation in order to familiarize yourself with the Canvas platform.

Log in to Canvas

You will be able to access your course one week before the beginning of the quarter. Log in at: Your user ID will be your 9 digit student ID number assigned by Renton Technical College (this number is different from your Social Security number). Your initial password will be the first 8 letters of your last name.(If your name is fewer than eight letters, repeat from the first letter until you reach the eight; for example, Johnson=johnsonj, Park=parkpark.) Use all lower-case letters. You will be able to change your password once you access your class.
