September 18 and 19, 2020 Commencement Postponed
We are very sorry to have to deliver late-breaking developments that require us to postpone the Commencement activities planned for this upcoming Friday and Saturday, September 18-19. All of us have been excited to be engaged in the planning and were so looking forward to everyone’s great participation. However, the newsworthy spike of coronavirus transmission associated with university campuses in Washington has brought a renewed focus by state officials to activities on and off campuses that might increase the spread of the virus. We realize this message is especially surprising because we sent out positive information and expectations just earlier this morning.
Our instructional plans for the fall remain vibrant and safe, with limited lab courses offered in person as we successfully did this summer, and a great deal of academic work done online, but non-instructional gatherings of more than five people will not be allowed. While we had a very safe plan for Commencement, we cannot proceed in the current context. And though we have all become familiar with having to change course quickly, familiarity doesn’t make it less distressing to do so.
We are truly sorry to have gotten graduates’ and family and friends’ hopes up for this culminating event and then having to quickly change course so close to the event. But we have planning in place and all of your contact information so that we can celebrate at a later and safer date.
Above: 2020 RTC Message to Graduates.
STEP ONE: APPLY FOR GRADUATION/DIPLOMA REQUEST
Degree/Certificate: Apply for graduation.
If you are completing your degree/certificate in Spring 2020 or Summer 2020, apply for graduation. When you apply for graduation, the RTC Enrollment Services team will confirm that you’ve completed all requirements of your degree/certificate, update your transcripts, and mail your printed diploma (separately from your diploma cover/cap/gown).
To apply for graduation, visit the RTC Graduation Application page.
High School: Request your diploma.
When you complete the requirements for your high school diploma, your teachers inform the RTC Enrollment Services staff. However, you still have to request that your printed diploma be mailed to you.
Request your printed diploma:
- Adult High School Completion Program: Diploma Request
- Youth High School Completion Program: Diploma and/or Transcript Request
STEP TWO: REQUEST A FREE CAP & GOWN + DIPLOMA COVER!
The RTC Associated Student Government has purchased caps and gowns for RTC graduates, and you can request one to be mailed to you. Put it on, take photos, and celebrate on social media and/or by sharing the photos with your loved ones until we can all celebrate together in person! We will also include your diploma cover (these are traditionally given on stage during the commencement ceremony).
Requests received by June 30, 2020, will be processed first and caps gowns will be sent by mid-July to the address you provide. Requests received after June 30, 2020, will be processed in early August.
Send your request by visiting the RTC Class of 2020 - Request Your Free Cap & Gown page.
