RTC Foundation Receives a $20,000 Grant

Last fall, Seattle Foundation donors participated in a GiveTogether Cycle, identifying Success in Higher Education as their grant making focus.  As research shows that college completion remains an elusive goal for many King County low-income and minority students, and given that two-thirds of jobs in our region will require a college degree or career credential by 2018, we know, as do these donors, that these equity challenges posed are critical.

Renton Technical College Recertified as an Achieving the Dream Leader College

RENTON, Wash. — Renton Technical College (RTC) today was recertified as an Achieving the Dream Leader College – a national designation awarded to community colleges that commit to improving student success and closing achievement gaps. Only 16 colleges in the nation received this honor.  Achieving the Dream, Inc. is a national nonprofit that is dedicated to helping community college students, particularly low-income students and students of color, stay in school and earn a college certificate or degree.

Renton Technical College Responds to Being Identified as One of the Top 10 Community Colleges in the Country

RENTON, Wash. — Renton Technical College (RTC) today was named one of the top 10 finalists for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. RTC is now eligible to enter the last stage of the competition for the $1 million prize fund that will be awarded in March 2015 in Washington D.C.

Steve Hanson to retire as president of Renton Technical College

Steve Hanson, president at Renton Technical College since September 2009, will retire in June, 2015.

"It has been an honor to serve as Renton Technical College's president for the past five years. Our college has an outstanding reputation for its commitment to student success, as exemplified by our selection by the Aspen Institute as one of the top community colleges in the nation. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with an extraordinary group of trustees, faculty and staff that is dedicated to the mission of transforming the lives of our students," said Hanson.
