Renton Technical College now Offering ASE Certification Exams

RENTON, Wash. – Renton Technical College is pleased to announce it is now a designated ASE or Automotive Service Excellence testing location.

During the weeks of 12/21 through 12/31, all departments will close to the public each day at 4:30 p.m. There will be no services provided after that time.  If visiting campus during those weeks, please be sure to call ahead as some departments may have even more limited hours.

Frieda Takamura Appointed to Board of Trustees

RENTON, Wash. – Today, Renton Technical College announced the appointment of Frieda Takamura to the Board of Trustees. Takamura was the president of the Renton Education Association from 1988-91, after teaching in junior high and high schools in Renton, Walla Walla, and Crawfordsville, Ind. She also previously worked as the human and civil rights program coordinator for the Washington Education Association.

Renton Technical College Receives Federal Grant to Expand Apprenticeship Programs

RENTON, Wash. – Renton Technical College (RTC) was awarded a grant of $468,595 from the U.S. Department of Labor’s American Apprenticeship Initiative. The funds will support the purchase of new technology for Heat/Frost, Stationary Engineers, Pacific Maritime Institute, and Machinist programs. The award is part of a larger $4.8 million grant to fund the Partnership for Advanced Technology Apprenticeships in Manufacturing and Marine Engineering project (PATAM) led by South Seattle College.

Nine Students Named Siemens Technical Scholars

Renton, Wash. — Nine students attending Renton Technical College were named inaugural 2015 Siemens Technical Scholars by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program (CEP) and the Siemens Foundation. Scholars were chosen from programs at the nation’s top community and technical colleges, all of which provide outstanding preparation for high-demand jobs in advanced manufacturing, energy, healthcare, and information technology. The RTC students represent the largest group of scholarship recipients from a single institution in the nation.

RTC Automotive Instructor’s Work on Display at America’s Car Museum

RENTON, Wash. – Automotive Technology instructor Mike Fobes was invited to display two unique creations at The LeMay, known as America’s Car Museum this month. The museum attracts more than 400,000 visitors annually.

Renton Technical College Receives National Recognition

(Renton, WA) Renton Technical College has received the annual merit award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) for achieving at least 90 percent pass rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination for the cycle of August 1, 2014 through July 31, 2015. RTC Surgical Technologist program graduates actually achieved 96 percent successful pass rate during that time period. Graduates obtaining national certification as a CST demonstrate by examination understanding of the basic competencies for safe patient care on the operating room. The CST is widely recognized in the health care community as the foremost credential for surgical technologists in the nation. The CST is required for employment within many local, state, and national health care organizations.

Every year, three faculty and three staff members are recognized for their hard work and dedication to the mission of the College and to student success.
